Below one sign a bit larger with different colours restricting access to a fire event ( loss of homes ).
No signs on other land and driveways nearby indicating such a restriction.
Police in Penticton told reporters today that RCMP officers would prefer that the property be left alone for the time being.
Owner Wally Yahnke, on the property for 25 years, says the fire started during a wind storm Friday afternoon, when lightning hit the power line right by the road gate.
Yahnke claims local firefighters didn’t do anything about the fire and would not let him fight it, even though he had a 2,000 gallon tank of water right beside the house.
Rob Graham, spokesman for the Oliver Fire Department, said firefighters did attend but there was no way to exit safely so the fire department concentrated on getting people away from the spreading fire.
Ministry of Forest officials were clear – evacuated people from the scene and let them fight the fire.
As far as any investigation is concered, Yahnke said he is unsure why it is taking place.
