Gala Park on Gala Street – north of the Oliver Elementary.
It’s looking fairly rough at the moment but civic staff say the out of town contractor did exactly what was expected of them. Plant trees and natural grasses and shrubs, make a paved path, place a number of drainage features into play, install temporary above ground irrigation and feature rock. Done.
In Oliver when you don’t have a fully landscaped space the invaders move in – sometimes the worst of weeds.
Mark Jamieson, is the plant man, at the Town of Oliver and he conducted a media tour Thursday morning. It will take some time for the natural plantings to take hold he says- sufficient enough to scare off the weeds.
Jamieson says time is the key and a little patience. He promises in two years it will look a lot better.
Gala Park is quite different to the lawn area in front of the high school and the fully landscaped feature area (Fairview Park) which is almost complete south of the Frank Venables Theatre.
Some of the neighbours at Gala not happy with the growth of weeds and it will take a lot of labour to control them. Time will tell.
