SeaDoo vs Boat Collision – Osoyoos
On July 28, 2015 at 1:56pm, the Osoyoos RCMP responded along with BC Ambulance and Osoyoos Fire Department to a two vessel collision on Osoyoos Lake. A family from Delta, BC was sitting stationary in their vessel on Osoyoos Lake while two other family members were riding together on a rented personal water craft (PWC). The operator of the PWC, a 17 year old female was doubling her aunt when she collided with the family’s stationary boat, launching the PWC on top of the passenger area of the boat. The seadoo operator and passenger were brought to shore where they were treated and then transported by air ambulance to hospital in Kelowna. The 17 year old has been released from the hospital while the aunt remains admitted with serious but none life threatening facial injuries. Fortunately the others on the boat were uninjured. This is a stark reminder of the risks inherited while operating a personal water craft with very little experience.
