Priorities
Many people who want to find some meaning in life pursue one of four options: fun and games (pleasure); money and things (possessions); influence and control (power); or recognition and achievement (prestige). We all need a measure of each one of these. There are essential, positive benefits to be had from them. The problem comes if even one of them becomes the number one priority. Unbalanced obsession has caused huge damage to relationships. The answer that Jesus gave to one who questioned him about what was most important seems like such a simple and reasonable solution. First, love God; then love people as much as you love yourself. Easy to say; tough to do, but wouldn’t that move us into the sunny side?
