We are half way through our tour and I’m overwhelmed with the scope of what our Canadian soldiers were involved in. Our bus is decorated with Canadian flags and everywhere we go people come out to greet us, even after so many years the gratitude for the Canadians for bringing freedom to the people here in France & Belgium is so touching. We have visited many of the memorial sites, stopping in places such as Juno beach, Dieppe, Ypres, and today we will be going to Passchendaele and many more stops to come. Learning the stories of each place we have stopped (more numerous than the few places I’ve mentioned) has brought a new perspective into the lives of the soldiers of both wars. The challenges they faced, the environment they were in lend to a much bigger picture for me now. I look forward to sharing these stories with you upon my return.
