November 12, 1933 – July 19, 2015
On Sunday July 19, 2015, Mrs. Florence Juliette (Flo) Parker of Oliver passed away peacefully at the McKinney Place at the age of 81 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Nelson; brothers Victor, Roderick, Francis, Dennis and Randal as well as sister Janet.
Flo will be fondly remembered by her loving family including sons Stephen (Louise) and Bradley; grandchildren Michael (Kaitlin), Crystal (Louise), Matthew and Amber; great-granddaughter Taylor as well as many extended family and friends.
Flo was born and raised on a farm in Quebec. She married Nelson at the age of eighteen on July 26, 1952. They moved to North Vancouver in the mid fifties where they also built a summer cabin on Bowen Island. From North Vancouver, they moved to Kelowna, then to Osoyoos before finally settling in Oliver in 1982. They purchased Russell Industries and serviced furnaces and air conditioners in the area. They operated the business on the highway beside NAPA Auto Parts and lived in the rear. Florence did double duty as receptionist for dad`s business while operating her own alterations business in the front of the store. Flo was the `common sense` partner to the `dreamer` that Nelson was.
When Nelson retired, they had a house built and Flo had a `sewing room` added on and continued her business for a number of years even after Nelson passed away in 1997. She was a loving and protective mother and wife – a one man woman and we will miss her dearly. Flo was an avid gardener who enjoyed getting her hands dirty. Over the years Flo was a competitive five and ten pin bowler and she won many trophies. Flo liked crosswords puzzles and board games (especially Scrabble). She enjoyed bus trips to Reno, travelling east to visit family and especially a cruise and trip to Disneyland for her 70th birthday. She was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, B.C. Lions and Vancouver Canucks. Flo spent many years with the Lioness Club and the CWL.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Neil Lustado at 10:00 A.M. Thursday July 23rd at Christ the King Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the church lower hall. Afterwards a graveside committal will be held at 4:00 P.M. in the Oliver Cemetery.
