While the plight of refugees of the Syrian conflict dominate the nightly news, it is becoming more and more difficult to ignore the responsibility that we, as fortunate citizens of a free nation, have to extend a compassionate hand to those so desperately in need. Our hearts may ache for the victims of the Syrian conflict, but we can no longer stand by and wait for a political resolution to ease their suffering.
The pastoral council of Christ the King Catholic church would like to spearhead a committee to begin the process of sponsoring a Syrian family. The task is a large one that would require community-wide support. Therefore, we are hoping to have input from the members of various churches and community groups to take on this important role. Together, we can make a monumental difference in the lives of at least one family.
We are hosting an information evening on Monday, July 20th at 7 PM at the Catholic Church. It is our hope that your church will put forth a representative to our committee. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 250-498-6604 or Dale Dodge at 250-498-4014 if you have any questions. Otherwise, we look forward to having your input at our meeting on Monday.
Sincerely,
Louise Szalay
