South of 122nd Avenue in Osoyoos’s fruit stand district.
Highway 97 was closed late this afternoon north of Osoyoos (near 122nd Avenue) after a single-engine airplane crashed and burned on the asphalt.
The pilot who was alone in the small aircraft, survived.
It is not clear whether the pilot was attempting an emergency landing. It is reported he clipped a tandem trailer truck and debris began falling off the plane prior to impact with a utility pole on west side of the highway.
The aircraft burst into flames on impact but the pilot got out with a resident near the crash site providing comfort until emergency crews arrived.
The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to the South Okanagan Regional Hospital in Oliver with undetermined injuries.
