Karen Niven wanted to wait until she was 75 but the pressure was on to retire – and make plans.
Niven came to Oliver in 1975 – buying some property below and west of Bellevue Drive. Karen, Al and two young girls arrived from Vernon looking for a good place to settle. They liked the idea that this area had great schools and was close to Apex.
Karen was a hair dresser from Vancouver who had moved to Whistler – but as the kids were born and getting to school age – no facilities there for them. The search was on. Real Estate was not on her mind when she got to Silver Star – then Oliver.
Niven set up a salon in her first small house in the rural area. Six years later she got the bug.
The Niven’s built their first home in Oliver and she set up with Century 21.
It has been 40 years – time to settle down at bit – do the bucket list – cleaning house and planning some trips with “the old guy”.
Why retire? – Well the obvious reasons but a few small injuries to a finger, a hand etc. in the last year have taught Karen that it takes a bit of time to heal and maybe relaxing has some advantages. How about some golfing?
She wants a purpose and will seek opportunities to do more for the area she lives in.
