ne inmate assaulted another prisoner at Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre Wednesday.
Kamloops RCMP have been called in to investigate.
Cheryl Rose, spokesperson with Corrections BC said one inmate was taken to hospital but, because of privacy concerns could not provide any further details. This is the second assault within the facility this week.
Dean Purdy, chair of the corrections and sheriffs component with the BCGEU, said a guard was badly assaulted by an inmate Monday.
“The officer was punched in the head by an inmate, then received multiple blows to the head and body and was subsequently bitten in the arm, shoulder and the wrist, breaking the skin,” said Purdy.
“It was a bad one. The officer was taken to Kamloops hospital for treatment of multiple injuries, including a possible concussion.”
This was the seventh assault on a corrections officer at KRCC this year with overcrowding cited as one of the main contributors to violence.
