We had 8 members attend the search.
Jim McConnell was one of the SAR managers from our team that was working the search in conjunction with the other SOSSAR (South Okanagan Similkameen Search and Rescue group)
SOSSAR consists of teams throughout the region:
– Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue
– Penticton and District Search and Rescue
– Princeton Ground Search and Rescue
– Keremeos Search and Rescue
Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue supplied 1 search manager to assist in overseeing the operation. He was on scene at command from 0500h to approx. 1915h. Two other members left Oliver between 0600h and 0700h while a third member went out around mid morning. Four more members arrived on scene at 1500h. All members were back in Oliver 2130h last night. Our members were tasked with working as spotters from the helicopter, trackers on the ground, transport of teams by UTV and using the UTV to check out accessible trails, and we supplied 1 SAR Manager. We worked yesterday alongside Penticton and District Search and Rescue, Princeton Ground Search and Rescue, Keremeos Search and Rescue. There were 30 volunteer search and rescue members involved in this task. RCMP Canine Services, BC Parks Ranger and HNZ Topflight Helicopters where also involved yesterday.
Any further questions at this time will have to be directed to the Keremeos RCMP Detachment, as with all missing person reports, this is an active police file.
OO Search and Rescue
There is still no sign of a pair of hikers missing in the Cathedral Lakes area
Police have identified the hikers as Lynne Carmody and Rick Moynan.
Keremeos RCMP received a report about the overdue hikers about 8:30 p.m. Monday.
They left Cathedral Lakes Lodge at 10 a.m. When they didn’t return for dinner, lodge staff conducted a brief search themselves, but were unsuccessful so they contacted police.
