The Osoyoos dog bylaw was adopted by council Monday meaning that dogs in parks “must be on a leash at all times,” according to Mayor Sue McKortoff.
The bylaw will also be easier for bylaw enforcement officers to enforce, said the mayor.
The revised bylaw came to council earlier this year following a spate of complaints of dogs off-leash in parks.
The former bylaw required dogs to be “on a leash or under the care and control of the owner.”
Chief Administrative Officer Barry Romanko said then, “Due to several incidents whereby the dog got away from the owner and had no leash, this provision is being changed to require leashes at all times.”
Larger dock approved
Council approved an enlarged dock for the Paradise Park on Solana Bay provided councillors get to visit the site to better understand the project and its context.
The new dock will be 30 metres long and include four side fingers. It will be able to accommodate 10 boats. The number of Paradise Park private buoys in the bay will drop from25 to 15.
Councillor CJ Rhodes said this is the first time council has been asked to approve such a rezoning and that “it’s important that we get it right.”
A fitting send-off for Slater
The recent service for John Slater was “one of the nicest memorials I’ve ever been to,” Councillor CJ Rhodes told council Monday.
Friends and family gathered June 6 at the Sonora Centre to remember the former councillor, mayor and MLA.
“His contributions over the years warranted such a send-off,” said Rhodes.
Slater died in his sleep unexpectedly last month. He was 63.
