Brand new school, brand new cafeteria kitchen. Not overly successful and time to try something else. About 450 students and only 50 buy from a person who prepares small but nutritious meals at a reasonable cost. It’s a contract employee still in CUPE but not enough business.
Principal Marcus Toneatto says there are a couple of problems – Victoria rules and a nutritious bill of faire only – no burgers and fries or poutine. Toneatto says demand would rise if students could eat what they wanted. If not they go downtown. It is not a closed campus – cash rich kids have options. The plan is to develop an alternative and food course teachers and students being asked to learn Foodsafe and prepare alternatives for students who want to stay for lunch in the school.
Those bygone days of the old school cafeteria in the basement with fish and chips and revels and pudding – are a glimmer in many minds. This is the new reality.
Got a good idea that you would like tested. Find a solution that increases revenue, fits policy and is loved by students. The new wonderful cafeteria area will stay as a meeting space for kids – they love it with access to the outdoors – a view with doors.
