A roomfull of Oliver rural residents June 22/11 told Regional Director Allan Patton “something has be done” about a situation where non-permit work has been done at two sites near 380th Avenue north of town. Two business-people Mike Kozmenko and Mike Barisoff have applied for a permit from the Minister of Mines to allow a quarry and sand removal. Residents spoke against the permit saying work has been going on illegaly for some time and they were not confident with government having the control over these activities. Area C Director Allan Patton said he called the meeting so that the public can go on record with their approval or their opposition. He says the Regional District has little control over gravel pit operations but will work with government ministries to seek control over truck loads, traffic off the highway and ways of making life easier for nearby residents.
