Suresh Shrestha, third from left above, is pictured overseeing the distribution of the first batch of basic foodstuff relief reaching villagers in Nepal. The initial $5000 sent by World Neighbours Canada has all been spent on rice, lentils, cooking oil and salt. This initial money has been used to supply 164 families of the ‘so called untouchable class of Ramechhap,’ who may very likely not get much support otherwise. Another $25,000 CDN has since been transferred to Suresh and the organization he leads, Tamakoshi Sewa Samiti (TSS), and the final $16,000 plus will be sent later this month. The advantage of sending the funds through TSS is that virtually every penny is spent on aid, and none on administration.
Suresh will be coming to Oliver in September. If any organization wishes to have him meet and talk with them, please contact Dale Dodge – dodger@persona.ca.
