A run-off vote will now be conducted between the two candidates with results known after June 18th.
Oliver doctor Alan Ruddiman lost to one of Canada’s strongest proponents for private medical surgery, Dr. Brian Day, by just one vote.
Monday’s recount actually showed the two candidates were tied.
The association’s CEO Allan Seckel says a run-off vote will now be conducted between the two candidates between June 5 and 18.
Day founded the private Cambie clinic about two decades ago but came under fire in a 2012 audit for illegally charging patients for services. He has since challenged the B.C. government in court, arguing that a Canada Health Act prohibition that prevents doctors from billing patients privately is a charter violation.
Meanwhile Ruddiman says he does not support Day`s push for more private involvement in the public health system, but admits the universal model could do better.
