Where’s the Evidence?
An atheist club had invited a guest speaker who delivered a scathing denunciation of Christians. At the close he challenged anyone to refute his claims. One man arose and told the group that he had been a member of this club for 5 years. Then, six months ago, he became very ill and lost his job. Not one person from the club came to see him or offer any support. The couple who did come to help were Christians whom he had earlier driven away from his place with threats. They cared for his needs and nursed him through his illness. Without that he didn’t think he would have survived. He had asked this couple why they would do that for someone who had mistreated them so badly. They replied that the Lord had been kind to them when they had been undeserving and they were just passing it on. Passionately the former atheist concluded his rebuttal with the statement that he had now become a Christian too.
May those of us who claim to be followers of Jesus live up to that standard too. Otherwise our impact will be negative.
Keeping on the sunny side,
