The Board of Directors of World Neighbours Canada (WNC) would like to give a special thank you to the Sikh Community of the South Okanagan for their very generous support of the Nepal Earthquake Relief effort. Nav Gill got the ball rolling when she contacted Resham Brar and the Bhavsagar Sikh Temple. A fund raising committee was formed and members went door to door, raising over $12,000. A special event at the Temple in Oliver raised $3000 and then a ladies day at SOSS (pictured below) raised another $2000, for a total of $17,000.
Special thanks go to Resham Brar who lead the fundraising efforts and got people inspired and involved. Jagdish Gill, Kulwinder Dhillon, Pargat Singh and Jarnail Gill were key volunteers working with Resham. And at the Ladies Day, Suman Sharma and Harmandeep Brar should be especially thanked for their work and dedication.
These funds will go directly to WNC’s partner in Nepal and be used for tarps, tents and basic foodstuffs. In total, Oliver people donated over $45,000, all of which will be matched by the Federal Government. Thank you Oliver, and once again, a special thanks to our Sikh Community.
