At the regular Board of Education meeting the Board also approved the French Immersion Pilot program at Tuc- el- Nuit Elementary School for September 2015. This will be a late immersion program; what a wonderful opportunity for our grades 6 and 7 students.
Parents of nearly 30 students have indicated a desire for a French Immersion class at the elementary school level.
TEN school principal Shendah Benoit had suggested the programme to school trustees – that – and a survey convinced the Board. Benoit stated the “learning of added languages enhances problem solving and thought processing skills”
School District #53 – Board of Trustees has now agreed and the programme will begin in the fall.
“It will be a great benefit to the students,” stated Benoit. It will be a programme for grades 6-7 allowing them to continue such studies in high school.
Principal Benoit says that French immersion has been the topic of conversation for some time, so in January of this year the school sent out surveys to some families. Many indicated a strong desire for such a programme. Trustees said some students have been lost to such programmes elsewhere.
School board chair Marieze Tarr contacted Thursday said some students from Oliver go to Penticton for French immersion studies.
