Kelowna – Police responded to a report of a male brandishing a weapon in a local restaurant.
On May 26, 2015 at 12:21 pm, the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of male brandishing a weapon in progress at Swankies Hot Dog Restaurant located at the corner of Leathhead Road and Rutland Road in Rutland. RCMP attended the area and set up containment. Local schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Police Service Dog searched the area however no track was located. RCMP lifted the containment area as well as the school lockdown. Police continued to patrol the area looking for the suspect.
Police obtained a number of witness statements and several leads at the scene. On May 26, 2015 at 5:10 pm, RCMP located a 33-year-old male (no fixed address) and a 33-year-old female (no fixed address) and the pair were arrested without incident. The female was later released without charges. The 33-year-old male faces potential charges of Uttering Threats, Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
The 33-year-old male is being held in custody.
