ODN is not a “muckraking” on line media source.
ODN reliably informed of a potential story of import to the South Okanagan.
Dawn tells us she is a long time volunteer who brought her children to SORCO. For a reason not explained well she was told not to return as a helper after all those years.
There is always two sides to a story and we have attempted to get the other side.
We phoned the new Manager (Dale Belvedere) and the Society Board Chair of SORCO (Dave Whitton). The manager seemed surprised and frustrated with the call and the President living in Summerland recited chapter and verse – all these matters covered by client/volunteer/employee confidentiality agreements.
Now SORCO is an organization with a good reputation that operates in the South Okanagan at a facility near Vaseux Lake. Sheri Klein ran the place for many years and then moved on. Lauren Meeds ran it for four years and then resigned.
Whitton says the organization has a wonderful reputation and much community support with the Lt. Governor showing respect for the organization by visiting.
Dawn admits she won’t be invited back but wants a policy written that protect volunteers and helpers who offer their time and interest.
Allegation: Dawn a volunteer of 7-8 years told to stay away (let go) by a newly appointed manager.
