Since March 1st Kelowna RCMP have conducted speed enforcement along the Highway 97 corridor north to Vernon.
The primary purpose of this enforcement was to target aggressive drivers that are travelling more than forty (40) kms. per hour over the posted speed limit.
In the last two months, Kelowna IRSU has impounded 53 vehicles for excessive speed in this area. Under the BC Motor Vehicle Act, vehicles travelling more than forty (40) kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit are impounded for a minimum of seven (7) days and the respective drivers are subject to fines starting at $368.00.
“Aggressive driving has become a major threat to the safety of motorists utilizing BC highways,” says Cpl. Joe Duncan.” “The goal of targeting aggressive drivers is to reduce serious injury/fatality collisions along the Highway 97 corridor.”
Aggressive driving enforcement will continue over the May long weekend in support of Canada Road Safety Week.
