The B.C. Electoral Boundary Commission has been told there isn’t any logic in putting Princeton in the riding of Boundary Similkameen.
“There isn’t a strong connection to the Okanagan. Princeton’s economy is based on forestry and mining and is more closely aligned with Fraser-Nicola. It might make sense from a numbers perspective, but not from a community perspective,” said Roger Sellick at a commission hearing in Vernon, Wednesday.
“We wrestled with this because it would be the only one outside the parameters. It really is a tough one for us,” said commissioner Keith Archer.
The commission is tasked with having to equalize population numbers within plus or minus 25 per cent of the provincial average.
“The way it sits now, Boundary Similkameen would be the only riding outside that parameter, at 30 per cent,” said Archer.
Princeton is a key player in the RDOS (Okanagan Similkameen Regional District) sited on the Similkameen River.
Now a group of guys are decided maybe its should be part of another slice of the BC pie.
