Ever been scammed?

People phone and email me on a regular basis saying “you have to do something – people are getting scammed!”

I really don’t know what to do. Police warn. Media warn. Neighbours warn. BUT

People get hurt, burned, ripped off. Doesn’t matter what the punishment is – this is the scammer’s living.

No amount of education or warning can convince someone to be cautious.

1. Open emails from people you know
2. Don’t allow access to your home from anyone knocking at your door
3. Never give out personal information – phones, credit cards, any info
4. If someone gives you a sob story – do this – say: I need your DOB, you phone number, civic address to give to police
5. A phone call about a relative in trouble far away? Say: “you must know how to contact them – give me that info!!”
6. Always wait, phone a relative before making any decision you feel uncomfortable about.
7. You are in control – keep telling yourself that.
