“On Friday May 8th on Hwy 97 near Island Rd at 11:00 am there was a report of a single vehicle collision with a telephone pole. The driver was not injured and attempted to flee the scene. Bystanders provided assistance in locating the driver. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor. Cleaning up the scene of the collision was complicated as the pole had to be replaced prior to the vehicle being removed.
While RCMP members were at this scene, at 03:30 pm a kilometre North of where the first collision was being investigated a two vehicle collision was reported with serious injuries to one driver. The occupants of both vehicles were transported to local Hospitals. The collision is still under investigation.
The Oliver RCMP would like to sincerely thank the passing motorists who stopped to provide immediate assistance by checking on the injured persons. Oliver RCMP would also like to thank the emergency services who attend these scenes regularly. Their skills, knowledge and abilities provided at these hazardous incidents directly results in fewer injuries and deaths. ”
