An increase in property crime has started the year off with a bang, says Penticton RCMP Supt. Kevin Hewco.
According to a report on the first three months of 2015, there has been an increase in break and enters, vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in communities throughout the South Okanagan.
In Penticton, there were 61 vehicle thefts,104 thefts from vehicles, 58 business b&e’s and 21 residential break and enters.
Oliver and Osoyoos also saw their fair share of crime.
Oliver, there were 23 vehicle thefts, 14 thefts from vehicles and 10 residential b&e’s and 4 business break-ins. See full report else where on ODN for the South Okanagan.
Osoyoos saw 18 vehicle thefts, 10 thefts from vehicles and 11 business break-ins and four residential break and enters.
Hewco presented the information to a regional district board meeting Thursday. Mayors and directors asked about the possibility of using bait ATVs in Osoyoos and stepping up community policing so that rural communities don’t feel overlooked.
