30 year Steven Troy Fields of Osoyoos sentenced to 12 months in jail for leaving the scene of an accident in which a cyclist was seriously injured in May of last year.
Fields also has 3 months tacked on for impaired driving causing harm. In addition he will face 21 months of probation on his release and a 3 year driving ban.
Fields pled guilty to the charges. Fields admitted he was behind the wheel of a Jeep Grand Cherokee that hit Joshua Bergstad around 10 p.m. on May 29, 2014.
He appeared before Judge Brad Chapman
Court heard Bergstad was on his bike crossing 87th Street at the intersection with Main Street when he was struck by the Jeep.
Bergstad suffered fractures to his cervical spine and ribs, plus multiple abrasions on his body as a result of the collision that saw him dragged underneath the vehicle for approximately three meters.
Fields also admitted to police he was “hammered” on alcohol and “couldn’t function” at the time of the offence.
