One item for the attention of Town of Oliver Council was taken off the agenda in rather strange circumstances Monday.
This is the notice of motion:
That the council of Town of Oliver supports the Province of BC in its endeavors to acquire land to protect the area’s grasslands and to preserve endangered species in the South Okanagan-Similikameen and at the same time encourage dialogue towards the goal of enhancing off season tourism opportunities in our valleys.
Further the council encourages more dialogue with First Nations people, local stakeholders and other non-government organizations towards the goal of better managed local wilderness areas by working cooperatively with all governments in Canada.
That the council encourages the use of the great outdoors for industry and pleasure and respects the traditional use of such for mining, ranching, hunting, forestry and recreational use.
After a non-scheduled In-Camera meeting Monday – an e-mail sent to the Mayor was released by a vote of council for the public’s review with copies supplied to the media.
That motion of council in an open meeting was to seek legal advice to protect itself, release the information and postpone discussion for two weeks.
The email was scanned and a copy is shown below.
