Committee of the Whole – 3pm
Delegation Joe Dixon – Outback Events – two race dates coming up – June 6th Saturday and June 7th Sunday. First day is the Sprint and the big race following the Ironman Half.
Good Neighbour Bylaw 1357 – council discussion resulted in some suggested changes and the bylaw will return at a future council meeting. The 35 page bylaw is designed to spell out behaviors that are not acceptable within the municipality, methods of bringing such behavior to the attention of the authorities and actions that can be taken to remedy them.
The Town wants to protect Quality of Life, promoting civic responsibility and striving to enhance the relationships between neighbours. Sections of the bylaw cover fireworks, explosives, firearms and other weapons, health regulations, littering, panhandling, noise, property maintenance, vacant buildings and nuisance service calls.
Purchasing policy was reviewed and council decided not to suggest a change. Policy accepts the lowest tender bid and gives no preferential treatment to local suppliers or those businesses that bid on contracts.
Grant in aid – Meadowlark Festival request for $1500. A motion to take no action passed. Mayor Hovanes stated that the RDOS (Regional District) funds the festival and therefor the Town is covered by that granting decision.
