Interesting word in its full dimension. Parents sometimes desire better behavior from their children. Police and courts want to divert people away from bad behavior. Just two examples that come to mind.
ODN seeks to hear from as many sides of an issue as possible. Not just one.
Sometimes when a reader holds just his own idea up – he/she cannot see the forest or the other side of the coin – resulting in a negative behavior personalizing the argument.
ODN believes that this forum is for everyone and it encourages debate and argument. I can give two recent examples – the lady from Penticton against the prison. Comments always printed – some argument yes but always printed and not limited.
A person in a Kamloops jail is now writing on ODN with his point of view.
On any issue we should be more concerned about the bullies than the medium by which “words” are spoken. Don’t shoot the messenger.
Oliver Daily News is almost five year old and prides itself on two things – current and relevant information delivered in a colourful way 24 hours a day but most importantly it is fair, open, and reasonable.
Don’t personalize your argument. Changing that is the one concept ODN believes in – while running the business.
The best debate and the great persuaders do not personalize debate or bully others. They set out the arguments in a clear way and let it stand.
