On April 24, 2015 a commercial truck driver travelling between Rock Creek and Osoyoos had a Kestrel Hawk fly into his path and become lodged in the grille of his semi truck. The driver was unable to remove the hawk on his own yet wanted to ensure the hawk received help. The driver stopped at the Osoyoos RCMP Detachment and with the assistance of Cpl. Jason Bayda (pictured), the two were able to free the hawk from the grille.
Considering the circumstances the hawk appeared to be in relatively good condition with only minor damage visible to its tail. The hawk was turned over to the SORCO Raptor rehab centre for an assessment of any injuries. The RCMP are appreciative the driver took the extra care to ensure this little hawk received the necessary help it required.
On April 18, 2015 the Osoyoos RCMP responded to a single motorcycle collision on Highway 3 near the Osoyoos lookout. The 23 year old rider from West Kelowna was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson when he failed to negotiate the sharp turn and collided with the center meridian. The rider was assessed for a possible hand fracture.
On April 19, 2015 the Osoyoos RCMP responded to a boat fire on Osoyoos Lake. The vessel as well as a second smaller vessel were tied together and unoccupied in an area that moorage is not permitted. The larger vessel has been the subject of many complaints due to it frequently mooring in front of the public beach or in front of private residences. The vessels were fully engulfed by the time fire crews arrived on scene. They could not be salvaged. Although the vessel has been subject of numerous complaints there is no clear cause to suggest how the fire started but appears to be a result of flammables not being stored properly onboard.
