The RDOS has retained a consultant to prepare an Area Plan for Gallagher Lake. This is an amendment to the Area C Community Plan to provide direction on the future development of G. Lake. We have set up a Citizens Committee of 7 local residents. Our first Public Open House was on April 14.
We provided information on the community and asked questions about:
· Future housing
· Additional commercial uses, tourist commercial enhancements
· Extension of community sewer and water services
· Urban design improvements – along the Frontage Road
· Community amenities, parks and trails
· Highway 97 traffic speeds and pedestrian crossings
· Protection of environmental areas.
The Open House was well attended, estimated around 35-40 residents.
Concerns from some residents about the cost of extending sewer service were raised. The Area Plan will not specifically dealt with the timing and costs of extending sewer service, instead focusing on a range of land use planning topics. There were also a number of other issues and opportunities raised, such as Highway traffic, support for trail development, access to Gallagher Lake, commercial development and so on.
There will be another public engagement session in the next month or so.
