Those of you into the second tier of the two tiered system are not paying for or subsidizing any part of the electrical power I use or the power used by those only into the first tier of consumption.
We (2 of us) live in an older three bedroom home, two baths, large living room, dining room, fair sized kitchen and just about a full basement. We heat with gas, gas hot water heater and have to pay for that gas on top of our electrical consumption, we keep our house around 70-74 degrees F. We watch TV and are on the computer often. But for as long as I’ve lived in this house we have never used over the first level amount allowed for in the two tier system, sometimes only half the amount of Kwt hours. So if you use enough power to go into the second tier, pay for it.
If the two tier system is abandoned every one including those that stay in the first tier will have to pay more, therefor it is us that will be subsidizing you, not the other way round. I see many yard lights and outside home lights burning in the rural areas and they seem to be on dusk to dawn. I feel sorry that many of you can’t get gas to heat with but you chose the location you live in, for what ever reason you did, I chose my home and have to live with whatever cost increases I get for services.
My views have nothing to do with any group or support for any company or government, they are my own and are arrived at with common sense and an ability to see all things pertaining to it, not just the things affecting me and how I can get more for myself without paying for what I use. The two tier system was brought in to TRY and get consumers to use less power so more dams, nuclear or coal fired power stations wouldn’t be needed sooner rather than later, thus giving time for options to be found. Some have made this a political issue, some a hardship issue, some a rights issue, and others an issue of corporations lining their pocket which may have more to do with this issue than the others, but it remains a fact if we don’t cut back on power use we will all be paying more, so stop and think is that next electronic or electrical device really needed or is all just for show. We have to start thinking us, us ,us instead of me, me, me!
