A new Bylaw Enforcement Complaint Management Policy has been adopted by the Town of Oliver.
Several recent neighborhood situations have come to the attention of Council with instructions to staff to bring forward a revised method of dealing with complaints.
It’s a two complaint or two signature policy.
For something to be investigated or enforced the Town is requiring
1. Two complaint forms signed by unrelated Town residents within 100 metres of the subject complained about
or
2. One complaint form signed by a Town resident who lives within 3o metres of the subject complained about
or
3. One written or verbal complaint form from the RCMP
Anonymous complaints will not be acted upon. Spite complaints based on neighbor disputes will not be acted upon. The one exception to these statements is any matter that is deemed to cover “Life and Safety”.
The policy also gives new powers to elected officials or the employees, agents and external agencies who report problems to Town office.
Council however is not to be involved with sanctioning any investigation or making a decision on who shall be investigated.
A “Good Neighbour” policy is also being designed and should come before council later this year.
