The BC government has stated that the taxpayers of the Town of Oliver are not responsible for costs associated with the new correctional facility – whether or not they go over the 5,000 population figure.

Perry Clark, Executive Director, Policing, Security and Law writes:

“the Okanagan Correction Centre remains an RCMP provincial force jurisdiction responsibility”  “costs related to police services remain with the province”

The government also asserts that they anticipate no increased pressure on local police resources but continue to monitor workload demands.
