Ivan Messmer died last week at the age of 83.
He was first elected to Penticton council in 1975 and was then elected mayor in 1980. He served six years before going on to represent Boundary-Similkameen as a member of the Social Credit party from 1986 to 1991.
Messmer was then promoted to cabinet and served as solicitor general and minister of parks.
The service was held at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church over the weekend with many friends, releatives and current/former politicians in attendance.
