Three prominent Oliver artists have had work accepted into the Okanagan Valley-wide ‘Form and Fibre’ show opening Saturday, March 14th, at the Peachland Art Gallery. This unique display of works from sculptors, fibre artists, potters and carvers will be on display from March 14th – May 9th at the Mary Smith Hall at 5684 Beach Avenue in Peachland.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10-4 pm. Everyone is invited to the official opening with artists in attendance on March 14 from 10 – 2pm.
Susan McCarrell relocated from North Vancouver in 1996 and was involved in the wine industry for thirteen years. Susan is a self-taught mixed media collage and assemblage artist working with technology and emerging techniques to express her vision. Susan’s mixed media artwork is shown at the Tumbleweed Gallery, Penticton.
Janet Bednarczyk, who recently moved here from North Vancouver, has been working in fibre art and quilting for many years and is also involved with the Sagebrushers. Various pieces of her work can also be seen around Oliver this coming week. Her 2 quilts in the gallery are part of a series featuring ferns and their variety of forms depicted in appliqué and embroidery.
Marianne Parsons has worked with fibre for over 40 years, burning, bleaching, and generally manipulating fabrics in ways they were not originally intended to be used. Her pieces in the show include a fibre sculpture and several wall quilts employing innovative techniques that she teaches in her workshops around Western Canada.
