Got to talk to Mayor Andrew Jakubeit over the weekend and he mentioned that the contentious issue of a nude beach will be talked about at Penticton Council today.
Mayor Jakubeit says there are three competing forces, nudists/naturist* – the neighborhood – and some form of compromise. Jakubeit says he believes all could get along if they compromised a bit.
He says the neighbourhood cannot see the nude beach and that parents wanting a swim with children have many options downtown. Historically this Third Beach site has been the clothing optional site.
Jakubeit hopes that a barrier can be made to separate public and clothing optional areas – but no quick fix is likely.
Enforcement action – police investigatingĀ etc. is not the preferred choice.
Council on Monday night asked staff to report back on two options: signage to control clothing optional uses for a portion of the beach or berms and landscaping that would segregate such a use.
