Noticed
The king of England agreed to attend the laying of a cornerstone for a new hospital in a city he had rarely or maybe never visited. As a result huge crowds assembled on the day of his arrival. Thousands thronged the streets and converged upon the grounds where the stone was to be laid. A very large choir of school children were scheduled to sing for the king. When the whole ceremony was over and the king left for his palace a teacher noticed one girl in the choir dissolve into tears. “What’s wrong, little girl,” asked the teacher. “Didn’t you see the king?” “Yes, I did,” sobbed the girl, “but he didn’t see me.”
It’s true that the girl’s expectation was unrealistic, but we all experience times when we wish we would be noticed. It’s discouraging to be ignored. That’s when the promise in Psalm 33:18 is encouraging. “The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.”
In a world of nearly 7 billion people on a planet that is almost an invisible speck in a vast universe it is absolutely remarkable that God notices every individual.
