My name is Duane Hamm and I’m retiring from the Oliver Post Office very soon. I started working here in August, 2005 and my last working day will be Friday, March 13th. Nearly ten years and millions of pieces of mail, ten sets of Christmas lineups, multiple computer breakdowns and a steady stream of great customers.
I want to thank everyone for welcoming me and my wife into this community. I’ve had a grand time on the front desk and there are so many things that I’ll miss: I’ve met some of the most wonderful and fascinating people; I’ve loved the school children singing Christmas carols in the lobby; and I’m glad I was given the chance to host the tours of preschool kids, especially for Valentine’s Day.
I’ve enjoyed meeting the babies born into the community and hearing about the opportunities and challenges of day to day life in the south Okanagan. Sadly, I’ve grieved more than a few friends met over the counter who have passed away.
I’m going to miss seeing you all as often as I have been seeing you now at the Post Office and I’m thankful that my wife and I decided to move to the Oliver area. We’re not leaving the area and I want to stay in touch with many of you. Keep an eye open for me!
Sincerely,
Duane Hamm
