Re: Telephone company marketers in your neighbourhood
From: Nicole Kriesel
I just got home shortly ago and saw a person in a high visible vest walking down the street. He went across to my neighbors’ house and I watched while he was talking. I actually went over and confronted him and asked him if he was legit and asked to see his ID. He did have a badge, with an ID #. There was no picture, and the badge said “in training”.
He explained that his badge was on its way, and also showed me a text from his phone from his supervisor saying the same. He then pulled out his driver’s license and showed it to me. I explained what the worry was about and what was being reported. He was very courteous and obliging to my request and had no issue showing it to me. He had a folder and an IPad.
He also had lists of addresses in the area and informed me that there was a team of them going door to door upgrading Telus clients in the area. I asked him where his vehicle was and he pointed to a van down the street which does not have Telus stickers on it. He explained to me that the reason, is that they are from a marketing company called UPSTAT Marketing (can be searched online) which is actually contracted to Telus for these upgrades.
He gave me list of the people that are in the area and said it was okay to post the names for your convenience.

When I asked him how late do they knock on doors, he informed me that legally have until 9pm, but considering how early it gets dark, they try to wrap it up by 7-7:30 (but that’s not to say it wouldn’t necessarily be later).
