Prince George is stepping onto the national spotlight with the Canada Winter Games descending on the city this week.

Thousands of athletes and their coaches competing in 19 sports, ranging from alpine skiing and badminton to ringette and wheelchair basketball, have come to the northern city to compete in the games, which run from Feb. 13 to March 1.

This is the first time the event has been held in B.C., with officials from Prince George describing the importance of carrying on the legacy started by the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver and Whistler.

Feb 16 @ 11am v. PEI

Feb 16 @ 7pm v. MN

Feb 17 @ 5pm v. SK

Feb 18 @ 5pm v. ON
