Owners of land at 915 Bulrush Drive at the north end of Tucelnuit are seeking to rezone their campsite to residential allowing for a ten lot subdivision. Town of Oliver planner Chris Garrish suggests that council might want to have a public information meeting rather than allow the application to go through to a formal public hearing.
Cathy and James Hodge have told council the campsite is not viable, has a number of costly problems to fix and is losing its value. The owners state the present zoning doesn’t allow for long term rentals and that removing problematic trees will mean all new underground services.
They believe land for housing is a more viable use.
The planner indicates that rezoning a CT (commercial tourism) zone on Tuc-el-nuit Lake could signal other property owners that council is willing to move away from that to a lake without recreational access. It is suggested that other commercial zoning designations might be appropriate and allow flexibility in what could be developed on the land.
Council will review the application and the planners report on Tuesday next, following the long weekend.
