Public works crews are on scene of a water main break at Main Street and Wade Avenue. The break was reported at 10 a.m. and the volume of water indicates this is a larger water main located in an area that required more valve shut-offs to stop the flow. Crews successfully stopped the water flow at 11:40 a.m. and flooding was contained as much as possible. Only one building has been impacted at this point.
To allow for emergency repair work, water service has been turned off to properties in the 300 block of Main St. Crews have notified each establishment, and the public’s patience is appreciated as crews undertake this necessary work. This includes pumping water that has accumulated under the surface and digging down to reach the water pipe.
Traffic is restricted on Main/Wade and drivers are asked to please detour around the area while work is undertaken.
The cause of the break is unknown at this time, but will be investigated as repair solutions are developed.
