On January 23, 2015 at 9:40am, the Osoyoos RCMP were called to assist in stopping a 2003 Dodge Dakota travelling toward Osoyoos from Midway.
The vehicle had been stolen earlier from Grand Forks and then used as a get away vehicle after a residential break and enter in Midway. The suspect had just committed the break and enter, stealing jewelry and firearms before fleeing the police in Midway making this a high risk situation for the police and general public. Osoyoos members located the suspect and vehicle on Highway 3 near the lookout travelling toward Osoyoos. Upon seeing the police the suspect again took off attempting to flee.
Police engaged in a pursuit with the suspect on Highway 3 however due to the suspects dangerous driving were forced to disengage as the suspect approached town. In efforts to flee, the suspect reached excessive speeds and passed vehicles over double solid lines. Police monitored from a distance and noted the suspect turn onto 45th Street. Knowing this was a dead end the police reengaged in their efforts to locate the suspect and did so as the suspect drove to the parking lot of Spirit Ridge Resort where he was safely apprehended.
The stolen firearms were located in the vehicle and had been accessible to the suspect.
43 year old male Daniel Wayne Miller of Cranbrook has been held in custody until his next court appearance of February 4. He faces multiple charges including Break and Enter and Theft Over $5000, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight While Pursued by Police Officer, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2 and Breach of Recognizance X2.
