BC hunters have grown by 20 percent – the amount of foreign hunters is declining but the allocation is on the rise.
Main speakers Jesse Zeeman, biologist for the BC Wildlife Federation and Katrine Conroy, MLA Kootenay West. A representative of MLA Linda Larson attended as an observer.
The main point made during the 1 hour session – write the government – talk to your MLA – express you opinion with facts – “tell them you are disappointed and upset”
Changes to BC Wildlife Allocation policy (2014) believed to be contrary to public interest. The new policy gives foreign hunters 25% of moose and elk and 40% of mountain sheep, bear and mountain goat.
Guide outfitters says they are going broke – about 210 in the province. Hunters amount to 102 thousand persons in BC with the emergence of more family, young people and women in the sport.
