Kyle Capone Louie appeared in BC Supreme Court this morning before Mr. Justice Austin Cullen.
Kyle admitted killing his younger brother Reece Dillinger Louie 4 years ago in Oliver.
Kyle has now been designated as a Long Term Offender and faces a further 5.5 years of supervision by the National Parole Board.
He will finish his sentence (six months) in a residential treatment centre.
He has been on remand in custody for almost four years.
Judge Cullen did not deviate from a joint recommendation of defence and crown on the sentence. The judge also said – there must be consequences for even minor infractions when Kyle Louie returns to his community.
Louie is an aboriginal who had a heavy dependence on drugs and alcohol and a lack of anger management.
The judge mentioned residential schools as the father of Louie is a survivor.
