14 teams in 36th annual Air Show Boys basketball tournament put on by the Marauders

Saturday Haida Gwaii Saints 70 – Hornets 64

Hornets lost a hard fought game versus a solid AAAA Haida gwaii team that boasted a 6′ 6 provincial team player and to other players that stood over 6′ 4. The teams shared the lead in the first half, haida went into half up 39-34 . The hornets fought hard but a 4 minute mental lapse on defense and an inability to score the ball allowed the Saints to push the lead to 20.the hornets did not throw the towel on as they cut the lead to 4 late. Haida Gwaii hit their free throws and the hornets fell 70-64. All in all a good weekend of solid basketball against solid competition. Kulbir Grewal was named player of the game as he scored 17. Austin Basso had 23 and was named tournament all star. Very proud of the effort and the never give up spirit let move forward boys.

Friday Pitt Meadows Marauders against Hornets – Pitt wins 63-39

Hornets played a more spirited game as they led the whole game for the first time this year. Yes there were some ups and downs bur the downs were not as big today. Solid play from Austin Basso who led the team with 19 points. Gurshan Dhaliwal was very consistent at the point and Blake Miller-Yuckin hit 5 big 3 while scoring 17 point and earning player of the game award. All in all a better team effort well done boys. Record is 14-11 we have a chance to get on a roll let’s do it.

Thursday New Westminster vs Hornets lost 64-41

Blame it on the rain or bus or whatever or however the song goes. The hornets came out flat in the first half again and found themselves down 39-14. The second half was a lot better as the team put together a more spirited half as the were able to a even as they lost the game 64-41. Gurshan Dhaliwal led the team 16 and was named player of the game Austin Basso had 9 points in a losing cause. All in all not a bad effort but we will need to learn to work smarter and put forth our best effort from the start.
