Spokesperson for family of Roxanne Louie, Laurie Wilson, talks to reporters outside court house.
Main message to public – the search for Roxanne was affected by the media coverage and those concerned now are demonstrating so that justice is brought to the situation. Two people charged with a criminal offence in connection with her death faced a judge briefly in a court room packed with family members of the victim.
Wilson stated to reporters that the coverage of a missing person is usually caring but in this instance – Roxanne was characterized as a party person with information from police given out in a similar fashion. The family still unhappy that parents called by media before police got around to it.
Wilson told a Penticton Herald reporter: “…..of particular concern was an early media comment by an RCMP officer who said it’s hoped the missing woman had simply been partying and might eventually show up….“Those are the kind of comments that are left in the public’s purview that lessen the intensity, the worry and the concern,” she said.
Wilson said the rally was also to make sure justice is served in the case. “We just like to see the answers to all the questions. What really happened?”
