Penticton councillor Helene Konanz says the RDOS should hire a consultant to perform an independent governance review.
Konanz says a core services review is not needed but a high level overview of the large regional organization would be a useful exercise.
Most directors today showed no interest in this stating that the Regional District is very broad but professionally run. All comments came during the 2nd round of budget talks at board table.
Director Tom Siddon says he would like to stay away from such a can of worms.
CAO Bill Newell says the municipal auditor is conducting a review of all five water systems in the RDOS and that will take up a lot of staff time. He says this would not be an appropriate time for such a review that might cost 40 to 50 thousand dollars.
Konanz asserted that the RDOS needs more exposure to the public and called for microphones in the chamber and TV streaming when renovations are done later this year.
